Msgr. James Beattie is a native of Philadelphia, where he attended La Salle College before transferring to Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. After graduation, he remained at the Mount for seminary, and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1961. Msgr. Beattie served as Parochial Vicar at St. Ambrose in Cheverly, St. Michael in Ridge and St. Camillus in Silver Spring. He served as Administrator at St. Mary in Landover and as Pastor at St. Camillus, St. Catherine Laboure in Wheaton, and St. Bartholomew in Bethesda, from which he retired as pastor in 2011 before joining us at Our Lady of Lourdes. During his 50-plus years of priesthood, Msgr. Beattie also served as Director of the South East Catholic Center in Washington and as Director of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese. In addition to his valued cooperation at Lourdes, Msgr. Beattie also serves as a spiritual director at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.
